Yup! SpamHaus and GoDaddy are conspiring against the likes of those who likes to put their videophone IP address in our email signatures.
My email signature looks something like this:
--I was having trouble emailing my own clients -- two of them in fact -- was getting bounce back emails looking like this:
phone: 800.900.1000 | http://mywebsite.com | video phone: callhome.homeip.net
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status NotificationUpon further investigation, I found they were both using GoDaddy as their email host.
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
elliott@ETismyclient.com
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 16): 554 The message was rejected because it contains
prohibited virus or spam content
Called GoDaddy... sent the blocked emails to their tech support guy, and lo and behold, the flag was the dynamic DNS address I had set up for my video phone (which is H.323 based by the way). Asked them what vendor they use for spam filtering -- SpamHaus.org.
So -- those with video phones and dynamic DNS -- be WARNED! They're out to getcha!
OK, OK, jokes aside -- I changed my signature and this change works (changing dot to [dot]):
--
phone: 800.900.1000 | http://mywebsite.com | video phone: callhome[dot]homeip[dot]netThere ya see it!

5 shouts:
Duuuuuude. You actually solved the problem *I* was having with one of my instructors.
You da man!
Go figure... we had godaddy on one of our customer sites and they were using godaddy mailservers and were having problems...
hmm, going to check spamhaus tmw and see if this is what's been happening to some of their mail...
They're blocking more than the video phone address apparently. I telnet'd to their mail server and my messages was "test" and it was flagged 554.
Bob Parsons is a swine. How arrogant tripes are successful is beyond me.

What a class act. Go ahead punk, make my day? Ya', OK Bob.
I've done a bit of reading on the issues with godaddy dated back to '06 and it appears it may be an SPF check. It's definitely not SPAM nor is it a virus when it's a telnet session and straight text. At the very least, they need to send an appropriate error message. The MSFT "General Error" mentality has spread.
Sorry for the double post. Forgot to modify domain info.
Rol, so it is actually a conspiracy to constrict your business? :-) The only 'best' email clients are the hosts' webmail clients and their user interfaces are the WORST of the lot and pokey. Thanks to Google (GMail/Google Apps) for making me hooked. :-(
Shall we push ourselves and our friends to speed up implementation of OpenID?
